This blog contains spoilers.  BIG spoilers.  Of course, this is actually based on historical events, so technically there could be spoilers everywhere.  Just be advised. :D

I went to see Valkyrie last night.  It was a really pretty great movie!  It was pretty intense at some points, but I really enjoyed it. It wasn't as much action as I had thought it would be, more of the planning and historical events of that situation.  The really funny thing is that I know enough about history to know that Hitler wasn't killed in that assassination attempt (he committed suicide a few months later), but when the bomb went off I got all excited like 'Hooray!  He did it!'  Of course, then when everything started falling apart I was quite disappointed.  I was upset because it was not going well!  It was crumbling apart and there was nothing that could be done about it.  I felt so disappointed.  Afterward I was really impressed with that, actually, because it was (to some degree) how they felt.  They had worked so hard and now all of their carefully laid plans were falling apart.  Sad story!  The most heart wrenching part was that Tom Cruise's character kept trying to get a hold of his wife, but he wasn't able to get a line through, then he's caught and never gets the chance again.  That was pretty heartbreaking.  All in all, I give it a great review!

Hooray for 'Real' Shoes!

It may not seem like a big deal to many of you out there, but I have been wearing real shoes now since Monday.  Why, you may ask, is that a big deal?  Well, just over two weeks ago I was at rehearsal for the show I am currently performing in and several of us moved a behemoth table on the set.  Unfortunately, no one had taken the time to check and make sure there was nothing under the table and a giant TV fell smashing onto my foot.  I distinctly remember feeling like flames were shooting up my leg and then I completely blocked out what happened next.  I have to believe what everyone else told me which was that I calmly stated that there was a TV on my foot and that apparently at first they didn't really believe me because I was so calm about it.  Then, someone came and picked it up at which point, I remember the director asking if I was ok.  I said I need just a minute then I limp/hobbled over to a couch and ripped off my shoe and sock because I knew I couldn't do it if I went slowly (sort of like ripping off a band aid).  Well in the 30 seconds or so that had elapsed my foot had already become swollen and was starting to bruise so naturally everyone freaked out (myself excluded because I was really too mad to panic at that point)!  One of my friends ran outside and got a bag of snow to put on it and everyone helped get me settled.  We tried to go on with the rehearsal, but everyone was so concerned that the rehearsal wasn't going so well and I finally decided it was best to go for an x-ray to see if it was broken.  I had two of my friends drive me down to our office and my dad took a couple of x-rays.  We didn't know for sure on the first set if anything was broken so I hobbled around on crutches for a few days and then had it x-rayed again.  Finally on the third set (there were some lines that they thought could be breaks) we determined that it was not broken, but that it just had the crap bruised out of it and that I should take it easy.  Hooray for not having a broken foot!  I still couldn't handle having any pressure on it though, so I wore only shoes that didn't touch the top of my foot for two weeks.  This is why it is such a big deal for me to be able to say that I've been wearing shoes that cross over the top of my foot and it hasn't been horrible pain!  Hooray!  I may be able to get some snowboarding in this season yet!  Here are a couple of pictures of the bruising.

This one is a couple of days after the accident

A few days later as the bruise is developing

This one was about 1 1/2 weeks after

I don't have one that's really recent, but the bruise is all the way up my foot and looking pretty gruesome! Good times!
